Mwallu Mwachang’a

Mwallu is a Country Director at Aceli Africa in Tanzania. AceliAfrica is a market catalyst that unlocks privatesector lending for agricultural enterprises. Drawing upon new data thatexplains the credit gap for small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs) in theagriculture sector, Aceli offers financial incentives to a marketplace of over45 commercial banks and innovative finance companies in East Africa and Zambiato share in the risk and defray the high transaction costs of lending toagricultural SMEs. At Aceli Africa, he coordinates all activities in Tanzania,managing relationships with financial institutions, technical assistanceproviders, and other key partners and ecosystem actors.

He has over 20 years of experience incommercial banking, development finance and agricultural finance. Prior tojoining Aceli Africa in 2020, he served as Director of Corporate Banking at TIBCorporate Bank where he managed portfolio and business growth. He also held theposition of Head of Agricultural and Rural Finance at Financial SectorDeepening Tanzania (FSDT), overseeing large investments supporting capacity oflenders, SMEs, farmers, and rural households focusing particularly on newpractices and innovations, technical assistance, policies, regulatoryinitiatives, and microfinance development. Hepreviously held senior manager roles with NMB Bank Plc, Standard Chartered Bankand Tanzania Development Finance Ltd in corporate banking, SME and agribusiness,where he contributed to the growth of the business portfolios.
